Plant the Peas

Sarah (age 15) wrote this poem today in her Spanish class while watching a movie about the Canary Islands. The photos were taken today by her dad Chad who, upon his return home from work, was inspired  by Sarah's recitation of the poem. She certainly was inspired by her surroundings.

Plant the Peas, by Sarah Emmett

 The mountain blushes faintly green,
The birds sing in the willow,
While daffodils lift their sleepy heads,
and rise from ivy pillows,
And as they yawn,
and spread their stems,
they whisper to the sun:
"Plant the peas,
Shed the snow
For spring has just begun."

The earth lets off a lovely smell,
That waltzes with the breeze,
And tickles baby apricot buds,
And expels the winter freeze.
And as they dance,
Their inaugural jig,
They laugh up to the sun,
Plant the peas,
Shed the snow
For spring has just begun.

The bees and monarchs zoom about,
The pond fills to its banks,
The birches and the cattails bow,
United in their thanks,
And as they bow,
And conceal the ducks
Who quack up to the sun:
"Plant the peas,
Shed the snow
For spring has just begun."

The deer retreat to canyon shade,
While robins take thier places,
On apple branches that shield the sight,
Of blossoms' rosy faces.
And as they bloom,
A calming pink ,
They smile to the sun,
Plant the peas,
Shed the snow,
For spring has just begun.
